Sanibel Island Vs. Fort Myers: Beaches

Sanibel Island Vs. Fort Myers Beaches

When it comes to beaches, both Fort Myers and Sanibel island are known for their relaxing and laid-back beaches. So, if you are looking for a peaceful and quiet beach experience, you can’t go wrong with either one.

However, beaches on Fort Myers are more developed than on Sanibel Island. So, if you are looking for relaxing beaches with a number of beach activities to explore, then Fort Myers is a better option than Sanibel Island.

Also, I think Fort Myers is a better option for families as compared to Sanibel Island. Fort Myers has calm, shallow, and warm water year-round, which makes it an ideal beach gateway for families with little kids.

On the other hand, some of the beaches on Sanibel Island, like Lighthouse Beach Park and Blind Pass Beach, are not safe for beach activities like swimming and bathing due to strong currents.

Aside from that, Fort Myers has incredible sand. It is soft, white, and powdery, just like most beach lovers dream of.

On the other hand, due to its shelly coastline, the sand on Sanibel Island is not as soft and white as you will find in Fort Myers.

Sanibel Island Vs. Fort Myers: Things to Do

Sanibel Island Vs. Fort Myers activities

Fort Myers Beach is, obviously, the top attraction in Fort Myers. This beautiful beach, due to its shallow and warm water, is perfect for beach activities like swimming, parasailing, and kayaking. It is really a perfect beach gateway for families, couples, and adults alike.

For those who love to explore nature and wildlife, the six-mile cypress slough preserve is a must-visit place in Fort Myers. This incredible 3,500-acre wetland is home to a number of wild animals like alligators, turtles, and otters. It is a perfect place for wild lovers to see the exotic animals close by in their natural habitat.

Time Square is another top attraction in Fort Myers that offers a number of fun and exciting activities. This place is just a short distance away from Fort Myers beach and is home to a number of restaurants, souvenir shops, bars, and ice cream shops to explore for visitors.

When it comes to Sanibel Island, is an island whose 60% of the land is covered by nature reserves.

Unlike other popular travel destinations in Florida, it is home to a number of amazing nature reserves that are still unspoiled and teeming with wildlife. That’s why most of the activities on Sanibel Island revolve around its unspoiled natural beauty and secluded beaches.

If you are interested in exploring the island’s incredible natural beauty, then J.N. Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge is the place to go.

This is a great place for birdwatching as it is home to a number of bird species like blue herons, pelicans, and osprey. Also, there are many exotic wild animals in this park, like alligators, bobcats, marsh rabbits, and raccoons.

Lighthouse Beach is one of the most popular and beautiful beaches on Sanibel Island. This beach is home to a historic lighthouse and the Sanibel fishing pier. In particular, the large fishing pier on this beach is a great place to admire the gorgeous views of the ocean or to go fishing.

A dolphin-watching tour is one of the most popular activities to do on this island. It is quite entertaining to watch this beautiful creature swimming and playing in the vast ocean.

Sanibel Island Vs. Fort Myers: Nightlife

Sanibel Island Vs. Fort Myers nightlife

When it comes to nightlife, without a doubt, Fort Myers is a better option than Sanibel Island. Sanibel is known for its low-key and laid-back vibes. It has a very relaxed nightlife.

When it comes to Fort Myers, there are a number of places to go for partygoers. In particular, Downtown Fort Myers and the Gulf Coast Town Centre are two of the top nightlife hotspots in Fort Myers.

It is true that the nightlife scene in Fort Myers is not as bold or wild as it is in Sarasota or Fort Lauderdale. However, Fort Myers still has a far better nightlife scene than Sanibel Island, which caters to every kind of person.
